The Coexe Index of Education Leadership™ (CIEL) is an evaluation framework that examines leadership practice through the perspectives of the educators school leaders serve. It focuses on leadership behaviors that influence faculty experience, school culture, and student outcomes. Grounded in globally recognized frameworks, including the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL), International Baccalaureate (IB) leadership capabilities, and WASC accreditation criteria, the Index emphasizes observable, professional practices aligned with effective school leadership
Based on Coexe Index results, leaders demonstrating sustained alignment with effective leadership practices may be designated as Coexe Select™ Leaders.

Coexe Index of Educator Experience™
The Coexe Index of Educator Experience™ (CIEE) documents working conditions in international schools, including relocation support, leadership practices, resource access, and alignment between stated values and daily operations. It identifies factors associated with educator satisfaction, performance, and retention. Informed by established quality frameworks such as IB standards, NEASC, and CIS criteria, the Index also addresses conditions specific to international and expatriate teaching contexts. Its scope extends beyond classroom practice to the broader professional experience of teaching abroad.
Coexe Select™ Schools designation may be assigned to schools with the highest Educator Experience Index results within their national context.

The Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL)
Developed by the U.S.-based National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA), the PSEL outline the foundational competencies and behaviors expected of effective school leaders, with a focus on ethics, equity, instructional leadership, and school improvement.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Leadership Capabilities
Created by the International Baccalaureate Organization, these leadership capabilities emphasize collaborative leadership, instructional coherence, intercultural understanding, and the development of internationally minded learners.
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation Criteria
Used by WASC’s Accrediting Commission for Schools, these standards assess school leadership in the context of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, governance, and the creation of a supportive learning environment.
Learning Forward
Learning Forward is a U.S.-based professional association focused on the advancement of effective professional learning for educators. Their standards emphasize collaborative culture, data-driven improvement, and job-embedded professional development that positively impacts student achievement.
Council of International Schools (CIS)
The Council of International Schools is a global membership organization that provides accreditation services and promotes high-quality international education. CIS standards prioritize intercultural learning, ethical leadership, and safeguarding—making them especially relevant for evaluating international school environments.
New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Learning Principles
Developed by NEASC’s Commission on International Education, these principles emphasize learner-centered environments, inclusive practices, professional collaboration, and continuous school improvement. NEASC standards guide schools toward holistic development and alignment with global best practices in education.
